Thin fingernail moon hangs high in a starless sky as the last of orange sunlight kisses the horizon.

Skittering crabs move with the receding wave line while she walks this hard scrabble beach.

Scanning the horizon, as she has for hundreds of years, for her sweetheart’s ship home from the sea.

  1. What a beautiful, sad story. Love the hint that the poor, sad woman has haunted that shore for hundreds of years, waiting until she’s nothing but a whisper in the air. A perfect, enigmatic little tale – loved it. :)
