prompt night 22: hope over hate

source: unlocking life’s code.org

Sanaa, for prompt night 22,  has asked us to use pen/keyboard to help end hate.

My hope since the Genome Project determined genetically we are far more alike than we differ, is we’ll realize we are all of one family. That blood will bind us, not bleed us out. Here’s two short pieces expressing this hope.

99.9%

hey, someday

hey, we’ll realize

hey, what 99.9% means

hey, I got your genomes

hey, I got your genomes

hey, I got your back

hey, I got yours

if we don’t/do

if we don’t share religion

if we don’t share politics

if we don’t share lifestyle

if we don’t share cultures

if we don’t share tax brackets

if we don’t share quality of life

if we don’t share standard of living

we do share  common ancestors

makes us all family

big, sprawling, dysfunctional, crazy, angry, squabbling

now let’s make it loving

tomorrow let’s have a family re-union

  1. It would be grand if anything–biology, culture, philosophy–could bring us closer together. But it seems that to those who choose to hurt others nothing really matters. I add my hopes to yours, so that one day we, as a species, can figure out that regardless of how similar or different we are, we must recognize other beings’ right to live and thrive, that hurting others just because we can’t agree should never be an option.

    • “I so agree with your sentiments, especially ‘we must recognize other beings’ right to live and thrive, that hurting others just because we can’t agree should never be an option.’ I do so hope this happens soon,” she sighed.

  2. I enjoyed both of your poems. They seem to me to be pleas for sanity in this world where we truly are connected,,,how much better it might be if we really could see it,,

  3. Wouldn’t that be great! Sadly we still disagree because of events from centuries past still influence the way we think. We all want to be winners but that means at others expense. Love is very low on the priority list.
